To Market We Go | 3 Little Words
And They Aren’t I love You
Three little words I love hearing - Google My Business (GMB). If you click that link, it will bring you to a page that says “Stand out on Google for free”. Give that link a click and it says, “With a Google My Business account, you get more than a business listing. Your free Business Profile lets you easily connect with customers across Google Search and Maps.” And that my friends is where you want your business to be - easily searchable on Google Search and Maps.
How many times a day do you find yourself doing the same thing that guy is doing in the image above? I just did it myself to find an auto repair shop, took less than 30 seconds to find what I needed. How cool would it be for a customer to see your business pop up on their phone instead of Morley Butchers.
First, Things First
How do you become easily searchable on Google? Claim your GMB account! If you don’t claim it yourself, someone else, i.e. your competition, can jack up your business, even marking it as closed. Follow the link above and start the process. Once you have claimed your business, you have complete control over your GMB listing. The most important first step is making sure your NAP (Name, Address & Phone Number) is correct and up to date. Read more about that here.
Next Steps
You’ve claimed your GMB listing, your NAP is on point, now start utilizing this great tool! Your listing is the first thing that consumers will see when they are searching using the keywords that pertain to your business. Start filling in all the available fields such as your business hours, website link, photos, accessibility, and way more. Then you can start posting products, events and special offers and even try your hand at Google ads.
I personally find their Insights tab super valuable. It shows you how customers are searching for you, what keywords they are using, whether they are finding you on Search vs Map, to name a few.
