To Market We Go | Sometimes It Be Like That

An office space with a mural, Punch today in the face.

Before I Get Into Things

I was scrolling though Unsplash looking for an image for this newsletter, searching under current events, breathing and then inspiration. This image was actually in the inspiration category and it stopped me dead in my tracks and made me laugh for two reasons. One, for the message on the wall, and two, because the alt text for it says “green plant beside white desk photo”, totally disregarding the elephant in the room. While I don’t feel like punching today in the face, there have been plenty of others I would have liked to slam my fist into this year. I’d venture to guess you’d agree. Moving on.

I’ve Been Lacking Inspiration

I certainly can’t spell inspiration, the 4 times I’ve typed it here, they’ve all been misspelled. Maybe it’s the heat, maybe it’s my brain, sometimes I feel live I’ve developed late onset dyslexia. I digress…What I’m trying to get at is that I’m lacking inspiration lately. I took last week off to enjoy time away with my people and I just can’t get back into the writing groove. I’ve tossed around several ideas in my head for this newsletter and none of them are sticking. Should I write about ADA compliance? My new logo that I’ve yet to unveil? Do I continue highlighting small businesses? Discuss what I’ve been working on these days?

I found a Joan Didion quote that resonated with me:

Do not whine...
Do not complain.
Work harder.
Spend more time alone.

Man, did Joan hit the nail on the head with this one! I took her advice and spent some rare time by myself this morning to go for a jog. Found the inspiration for the title of this newsletter while listening to music, thanks Khalid and Swae Lee. This gave me the time and space in my head to formulate a plan for what I’d write. Then I read a heartfelt article in The Easy Reader News that Connor Buss, of Foreword Films, wrote and it confirmed my resolve to continue highlighting local businesses. If you’d like to be highlighted, please send me an email.

What Inspires You?

Have you found yourself in the same predicament as me? What helps you get out of your rut? What would you like to see in future newsletters? I would love for you to share you thoughts and ideas of what your creative process looks like. And I’d welcome any topics that you’d like me to write about in the future here.

Abalone Blanket from Esplanade Brand.

Look at what came in the mail!

The Abalone Blanket from Esplanade Brand! I interviewed founder Jessica last month and was patiently waiting for these to be back in stock. It is all that I hoped it would be - vibrant in color, super soft and big. And that Hello From The South Bay is her handwritten thank you note. You know me and thank you notes. She also popped in a couple stickers that my girls and I are fighting over. Well done, Esplanade Brand, well done.
